Welcome to my blog! I’m Carly (short for Carlen, middle name Day, last name still being worked out post-wedding). Let me tell you a little bit about me.
I live with my husband, John, in a little bungalow in Raleigh, NC. We moved here in the fall of 2013 after spending our post-college years in Brooklyn, NY. I will always have a special place in my heart for Brooklyn, possibly the DIY-est place on earth, where it’s hard not to get swept up in the wonders of making things. This blog was born in Brooklyn. It will never forget its roots.
But sometimes you’re ready for a change and we were. So we packed our bags, hit the road, and landed here in the City of Oaks. (Oh! And somewhere in there we got married. Cheers!)
So far so good. We’re still the new kids on the block, but feeling more at home every day.
This site is Weekend/Spare Time Me. The me that believes that little delicious victories in the kitchen are as satisfying—differently satisfying—as those on the job.
I’m a writer. I’m not trained as a chef, a food photographer, a designer, or an artist, but I like to dabble in all of those things. My hobbies include making birthday cards, going for morning runs, reading cookbooks, growing herbs, volunteering for Special Olympics, researching restaurants, and making food that makes my husband say, mid-mouthful, eyebrows raised, “YUM.” A delicious victory.
